Sinopse

Após seu mestre morrer subitamente, o jovem William, um valoroso escudeiro, resolve substituí-lo em uma competição envolvendo combate com lanças. Para tanto ele passa a treinar exaustivamente e consegue convencer Chauncer (Paul Bettany), um escritor, a forjar uma árvore genealógica para si, que faria com que ele tivesse uma família de nobres e não traria dúvidas à sua participação no torneio.
